About this reading layout

Source wording, punctuation, paragraph boundaries and supplied line breaks are retained. Long prose also has editorial reading breaks at sentence boundaries. Substantial passages already enclosed in double quotation marks are set apart; this does not identify their source or establish a connection.

These added breaks are reading aids, not claims about the original manuscript’s layout. Poetry is lineated only where the downloaded text supplies line breaks. References and edition notes remain with their text.

Chapter 16 — Codex III

Read in this edition: source locators and uncertainty marks are retained. Square brackets can mark gaps or editorial interventions; headings and supplied subtitles belong to the edition. Coverage and cautions

1. [Reflection of Light] then [concealed herself inside him, and] in [desire, he wished to extract] her from his [rib]. Reflection is something that one [cannot] grasp.

2. The darkness chased after [her] light, without catching the light, [and] he wished to extract the power [from] him, and (so) he made a new mold in the form of a woman, and [he] lifted her up in front of him, not the way Moses said, ‘He took a rib and created a woman, and placed her next to him.’ ⟦page 30⟧ Suddenly, he became sober from the inebriation of death.

3. Reflection raised the veil over his mind. He immediately realized his companion, who is equal to him: ‘You are surely bone of my bones, and you are flesh of my flesh.

4. Therefore will the man leave [his father] and his mother, and he will cleave to his wife, and both of them will become one flesh,’ [because] the companion of the mother was dispatched to rectify her deficiencies. Therefore [Adam gave her the name], ‘the [mother of all the living].’ [By the] sovereignty from [on high and by the revelation] of knowledge, Reflection [instructed them].
