About this reading layout

Source wording, punctuation, paragraph boundaries and supplied line breaks are retained. Long prose also has editorial reading breaks at sentence boundaries. Substantial passages already enclosed in double quotation marks are set apart; this does not identify their source or establish a connection.

These added breaks are reading aids, not claims about the original manuscript’s layout. Poetry is lineated only where the downloaded text supplies line breaks. References and edition notes remain with their text.

Chapter 17

Read in this edition: source locators and uncertainty marks are retained. Square brackets can mark gaps or editorial interventions; headings and supplied subtitles belong to the edition. Coverage and cautions

1. Eve is the first virgin, the one who apart from a husband bore her first child.

2. She is the one who served as her own midwife, on account of which she is considered to have said:

I am the one who is the part of my mother, and I am the one who is the mother.

3. I am the one who is the wife; I am the one who is the virgin.

4. I am the one who is pregnant; I am the one who is the midwife.

5. I am the one who eases the pains of travail.

6. My husband is the one who gave birth to me, and I am the one who is his mother, and he is the one who is my father, and my lord.

7. He is the one who is my strength.

8. Whatever he wishes, he speaks with reason.

9. I am on the way to becoming, although (already) I have given birth to a man as a lord.

10. Now these things were disclosed by the will of Sabaoth and his Christ to the souls that were to enter into the shaped forms of the authorities, and of these the holy voice said, “Multiply and flourish, rule over all created entities,” and they were the ones who were taken captive, in accord with their destinies, by the Primal Parent, and in this way they were locked up inside the prisons of the shaped forms ‹...› until the consummation of the age.
