Understand
The chapter joins two lists to one celebration: the priests and Levites from the first return down to Nehemiah's day — six high-priest generations named — and then the dedication of the wall. Two great choirs march on top of the wall in opposite directions, with trumpets, cymbals, psalteries, and harps, meeting at the temple. Great sacrifices are offered, 'and the joy in Jerusalem was heard from afar off.'
