Understand
Mordecai, serving in the king's court, overhears two of the king's eunuchs — Bagatha and Thara — plotting to assassinate Artaxerxes. He investigates, reports, the men are executed after confession, and the king records the deed in the chronicles and rewards Mordecai. The chapter closes with the rise of Aman (Haman), who 'sought to hurt Mardochai and his people' over those same two dead eunuchs.
