Understand
The whole people gathers 'as one man' at the water-gate and asks Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses. He reads from sunrise to noon; the people say Amen with lifted hands, weep — and are told not to mourn, because the day is holy: go eat the fat and drink the sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing. The next day they discover the feast of booths in the law and keep it for the first time since Joshua.
