Understand
Susanna, the godly wife of Joakim, is spied on by two elders who serve as judges. When she refuses them, they accuse her of adultery with a fictitious lover — and the assembly, believing the judges, condemns her to death. As she is led away, the young Daniel, stirred by the Holy Spirit, cries 'I am clear from the blood of this woman,' separates the two witnesses, and breaks their story on the detail of a tree: one swears it happened under a mastic, the other under a holm oak. The innocent blood is saved; the false judges die by the law they twisted.
